System 10 in action

How the complete system works

Heat moves in three ways. Conventional insulation addresses only one of them. System 10 controls all three — which is why it performs at far smaller thicknesses.

01 · Radiation

Heat that radiates through air

In summer, the sun heats the roof covering and infrared radiation passes straight into the attic. Fibrous insulation barely slows it down — which is why attics overheat.

System 10 reflects 95% through its pure-aluminium layers: Roof Pro on the outside, Gold and Multistrat on the inside send radiation back.
02 · Conduction

Heat that travels through the material

Heat migrates through the mass of the insulation, from the warm side to the cold side. The lower the conductivity (λ), the better the material insulates.

Wolle (λ 0.035–0.038) slows conduction through its hydrophobic synthetic fibre — without settling and without losing performance over time.
03 · Convection

Heat carried by air movement

Moving air carries heat and moisture through gaps and unsealed layers. This is also where condensation starts — warm vapour meeting a cold surface.

The sealed air layer between membranes (min. 3 cm) blocks convection, while the membranes act as a vapour barrier — no condensation inside the structure.
The 5 components are not separate materials but an integrated system: each addresses a different heat-transfer mechanism. Together they reach an R-value that conventional insulation only achieves at 2–3× the thickness.

The 5 components of System 10

Each component addresses a specific heat-transfer mechanism. Together they form one complete system — not a collection of unrelated materials.

Assumptions, stated in full: energy demand Q = HDD(CDD) × 24 × regime / R / 1000 / COP, per m² of envelope. Conventional insulation between rafters is penalised 30% for repetitive timber thermal bridging (rafters at 60–80 cm); System 10 R-values are certified for the full build-up including reflective membranes and sealed air layer. Equal-performance conventional thickness: t = λref × (RS10/0.70 − 0.17). System 10 build-up depth = WOLLE thickness + 6 cm (membranes, sealed air layer, battens). Floor-space gain — walls: (wall area ÷ 2.65 m usable height) × thickness saved; pitched roofs: a strip of width Δt ÷ sin(pitch) along the eaves length you enter. Prices are material only, incl. VAT; installation excluded. Climate data: heating/cooling degree days, base 18°C, long-term averages. Building physics · Condensation & dew point

Where does condensation form in a roof?

Condensation forms wherever the temperature inside the build-up drops below the dew point. The diagram below shows how temperature varies through the insulation thickness and where moisture risk appears — for each insulation type and structure (timber or steel).

Methodology: the dew point is computed with the Magnus formula from interior temperature and humidity. Temperature through the build-up drops in proportion to the thermal resistance traversed (EN ISO 13788). The comparison is at complete-system level, not fibre level: System 10 stops vapour on the interior side through its reflective membranes (sealed vapour barrier), so the structure and the insulation mass stay dry. Conventional systems without a proper barrier let vapour migrate toward the cold face, where — at rafter thermal bridges (timber λ=0.13, steel λ=50) — temperature drops below the dew point and condensation forms. PUR foam is itself a barrier, but cannot be dismantled. Indicative values ±10%.
